PhD in Economics at the London School of Economics. He is also a researcher at CEPR (London), IZA (Bonn), head of Labour Studies at Fondazione Debenedetti and chairman of the VisitInps programme, a research initiative launched by the Italian Social Security Administration in 2015. He was a member of the Supervisory Board of Intesa SanPaolo from 2007 to 2016 and Deputy Chairman in 2012-2013. He is one of the founders and current editor of www.lavoce.info. Between 2004 and 2005 he was Economic Advisor to the Italian Ministry of Finance. Previously he was an economist at the IMF Research Department and Associate Professor of Economics at Bocconi University (Milan). His main publications are in American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, Economic Journal, European Economic Review, Journal of the European Economic Association, Review of Economic Dynamics and Journal of Public Economics. He is also the author and editor of books published by Oxford University Press. Currently Professor of Economics at the University of Turin, Director of the Allievi Programme and Fellow of the Collegio Carlo Alberto. He is also director of the think tank LTI@Unito.
