Graduated in Economics in Genoa, he began his career at Arthur Andersen & Co. He was MD and on the Board of Directors of the foreign and Italian interests of the Costa Crociere S.p.A. Group. He was General Manager of Compagnie Française de Croisières. He was CFO of the cruise division of the Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A. (MSC) group.

To date, he is Chairman of MSC F&B Division S.p.A., Director of Stazioni Marittime S.p.A., and Chairman of Fondazione CIF Formazione.
